🧩 TPO+TD20 – 20% Talc Filled Thermoplastic Olefin
(Semi-rigid, weldable and dimensionally stable plastic, used in car bumpers, spoilers and caps where resistance and stable shape are required)
🔹 What is TPO+TD20
TPO+TD20 is a thermoplastic olefin compound (TPO) reinforced with 20% talc, designed to increase rigidity and thermal stability without completely losing the material’s elasticity.
It combines the advantages of TPO (PP+EPDM) — flexibility and impact resistance — with talc (TD) properties — rigidity and reduced shrinkage. It is one of the most used materials in OEM bumpers and spoilers, offering a perfect balance between elasticity and hardness.
🔧 Composition
- PP (Polypropylene) – structural base.
- EPDM (Synthetic Rubber) – elasticity and UV resistance.
- Talc (20%) – stiffening and dimensional stability.
- Additives – coupling agents, thermal stabilizers, colorants.
- Density: ≈ 1.02 g/cm³.
- Melting Point: ≈ 165–175 °C.
🚗 Where TPO+TD20 is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Body / Exterior | Bumpers, spoilers, caps, fairings | High resistance to thermal deformation |
| Interior / Trunk | Panels, guards, gaskets | Matte surface, clean finish |
| Aftermarket | OEM bumpers and decorative caps | Easy to recondition |
🔧 Welding temperatures and methods
| Method | Optimal temperature | Observations |
| Hot air | 270 – 290 °C | Weldable identically to standard TPO |
| Heat plate (mirror) | 260 – 280 °C | Ideal for flat areas and wide cracks |
| Manual extrusion | 250 – 270 °C | For long fissures and corners |
🔩 What to weld TPO+TD20 with (Material compatibility)
“What to weld TPO+TD20 with” is a frequent question in repairs of talc-filled bumpers. As a composite material, it is optimally welded only with rods of the same type (TPO+TD20) or compatible TPO.
✅ Compatible:
- TPO+TD20 ↔ TPO+TD20 – ideal combination.
- TPO+TD20 ↔ TPO / PP+EPDM / PP+TPO – good compatibility.
- TPO+TD20 ↔ PP-TD20 / PP-TD30 – partial compatibility (different elasticity).
❌ Incompatible:
- ABS, ASA, PC, PA, PVC – will not bond, different melting points.
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation:
Use TPO or PP+EPDM rods at a temperature of 280 °C. For high thicknesses, apply slow heating and constant pressure, avoiding talc oxidation. Finally, smooth the joint with a hot scraper for an OEM finish.

🧠 How to identify TPO+TD20
- Engraved marking: >TPO-TD20<, >PP/EPDM-T20<, >PP+TPO-T20<.
- Matte surface, rigid, slightly granular texture.
- Yellow-blue flame, faint paraffin smell.
- Does not crack easily when bent, but is stiffer than simple TPO.
- Slightly higher density (sinks slowly in water).
