🧩 PP+EPDM+TD20 – Polypropylene with EPDM Rubber and 20% Talc
(Elastic-rigid weldable plastic, ideal for car bumpers, spoilers, and flexible exterior parts with high stability)
🔹 What is PP+EPDM+TD20
PP+EPDM+TD20 is a polypropylene modified with EPDM rubber (for elasticity) and 20% talc (for rigidity and dimensional stability).
It is one of the most widely used materials in OEM bumper manufacturing, as it combines the flexibility of rubber with the resistance to deformation provided by talc.
Result: a malleable, weldable, durable, and impact-resistant plastic, perfect for large parts and shock absorption zones.
🔧 Composition
- PP (Polypropylene) – thermoplastic base
- EPDM (Ethylene-Propylene-Diene-Monomer) – elastic rubber, 10–15%
- Talc (20%) – mineral filler for rigidity
- Additives – UV stabilizers, antioxidants, coupling agents
- Sometimes referred to as PP-T20+EPDM or TPO+TD20
🚗 Where PP+EPDM+TD20 is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Body / Exterior | Bumpers, spoilers, lower liners | Most common OEM material for bumpers |
| Technical Interior | Covers, supports, side panels | Elastic but dimensionally stable |
| Engine Compartment | Protective parts and sensor housings | Withstands vibrations and temperature |
| Aftermarket / Tuning | Extensions, air diffusers, custom parts | Easy to process and paint |
🔧 Welding temperatures and methods
| Method | Optimal temperature | Observations |
| Hot air | 260 – 280 °C | Most common service method |
| Heat plate (mirror) | 250 – 270 °C | Clean and controlled bonding |
| Manual extrusion | 240 – 260 °C | Ideal for long cracks and mounts |
| Ultrasonic | — | Industrial use only |
🔩 What to weld PP+EPDM+TD20 with (Material compatibility)
The material is compatible with the entire PP family, but a welding rod with the same composition is recommended to maintain the elastic-rigid balance.
✅ Compatible:
- PP+EPDM+TD20 ↔ PP+EPDM+TD20 – ideal combination, original joint
- PP+EPDM+TD20 ↔ PP+EPDM / PP+HI – excellent compatibility (similar elasticity)
- PP+EPDM+TD20 ↔ PP-TD20 / PP-MD20 – compatible but slightly more rigid
- PP+EPDM+TD20 ↔ PP-C / PP-H – good compatibility, low shrinkage difference
❌ Incompatible:
- PE, ABS, ASA, PC, PA, PVC – different chemical structure, will not adhere
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation:
Use original PP-EPDM-TD20 welding rods or, alternatively, PP+EPDM or PP-C rods. Work at 270 °C with constant movement and uniform melting. Clean the whitish oxidation zone (exposed talc) for proper adhesion.

🧠 How to identify PP+EPDM+TD20
- Engraved marking: >PP-EPDM-TD20< or >TPO-T20<
- Yellow-blue flame, faint paraffin smell
- Slightly soft texture, but stable when bending
- Melts at 270 °C, slow and clean melting
- Matte surface, light grey or uniform black
💡 ReplastMD Practical Test: If the bumper is slightly elastic, does not crack when bent, and has the >PP-EPDM-TD20< marking → material confirmed.
