🧩 PEEK+MoS₂ – Polyether Ether Ketone with Molybdenum Disulfide
(A high-performance technical composite based on PEEK, modified with MoS₂ for self-lubrication, friction reduction, and improved wear stability. Ideal for mechanical parts subjected to friction and high temperatures, such as bushings and gears.)
🔹 What is PEEK+MoS₂
PEEK+MoS₂ is the “dry-running” specialist. At ReplastMD, we treat this material as the ultimate solution for extreme friction environments. While PEEK provides the thermal and chemical matrix, MoS₂ (a layered solid lubricant) significantly lowers the friction coefficient and prevents seizing without sacrificing rigidity. It is used where durability at 250 °C+ is required in “dry” operating conditions (without grease or oil).
🔧 Composition & Properties
- Polymer Base: Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) ~90%.
- Solid Lubricant: Molybdenum Disulfide (MoS₂) ~10%.
- Density: ~ 1.35 – 1.45 g/cm³.
- Operating Range: Constant use up to +250 °C.
- Visuals: Dark grey or graphite-black; satin-gloss finish, extremely rigid.
🚗 Where it is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Dry Bushings / Bearings | VW, Toyota, Renault | Grease-free operation, high thermal stability |
| Valves / Anti-friction Rings | BMW, Ford | Resists 250 °C and intense wear |
| Technical Gears | Mercedes, Peugeot | Self-lubricating, high mechanical strength |
| EGR / Turbo Systems | Hyundai, Dacia | Dimensional stability and non-stick properties |
🔧 Welding and Bonding Methods
| Method | Optimal Temp | Observations |
| Hot Air | 370 – 390 °C | Welding possible only with strict thermal control |
| Heat Plate (Mirror) | ✅ Recommended | Uniform, aesthetic weld without discoloration |
| Extrusion | ✅ Possible | Suitable for high-end technical rods and plates |
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: Weld at ~380 °C using a teflon-coated heating plate for clean joints. PEEK+MoS₂ is the ideal choice for bushings, bearings, and valves working under extreme loads and temperatures without additional lubrication.
