🧩 PBT+PTFE – Teflon-Modified PBT (Polytetrafluoroethylene)

(A high-performance low-friction technical composite based on PBT, modified with PTFE (Teflon) to achieve self-lubrication, a low friction coefficient, and increased wear resistance. Perfect for silent and grease-free mobile mechanisms.)

🔹 What is PBT+PTFE

PBT+PTFE is the “silent operator” of technical plastics. At ReplastMD, we treat it as a specialized self-lubricating material. By adding 10-15% PTFE to the PBT matrix, the material gains exceptional resistance to dry friction. This eliminates the need for external lubricants, making it ideal for gearsets, sliding bushings, and automotive guide rails that must move constantly under moderate loads without wear.

🔧 Composition & Properties

  • Polymer Base: Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) ~85–90%.
  • Lubricant: Teflon (PTFE) ~10–15%.
  • Density: ~ 1.40 – 1.45 g/cm³.
  • Operating Range: Stable up to +150 °C.
  • Visuals: Rigid, smooth, with a satin-lubricated feel; light grey, matte black, or pearlescent white.

🚗 Where it is used in the automotive industry

ComponentExample partsObservations
Bushings & BearingsVW, Renault, ToyotaSilent operation without grease
Fine Gears & PinionsBMW, FordLow friction coefficient, no lubricant needed
Guides, Clips, SupportsMercedes, PeugeotStable sliding and resistance to rapid wear
Connectors / Mobile PartsHyundai, DaciaStable dimensions and vibration resistance

🔧 Welding and Bonding Methods

MethodOptimal TempObservations
Hot Air250 – 270 °CPrecise welding required to avoid burning
Heat Plate (Mirror)RecommendedClean, uniform bonding
Chemical Bonding⚠️ RestrictedRequires polyester-specific primers (Loctite® 770 + 406)

💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: Weld at ~260 °C using digital temperature control or teflon-coated heating plates. PBT+PTFE is excellent for automotive bushings, guides, and gears, offering high durability and minimum friction without external lubrication.
