🧩 PBT+CF30 – Carbon Fiber Reinforced PBT (30%)

(An advanced composite material obtained by reinforcing Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) with 30% carbon fiber. It offers an excellent combination of rigidity, mechanical strength, and enhanced thermal conductivity.)

🔹 What is PBT+CF30

PBT+CF30 is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic polyester. At ReplastMD, we treat it as a high-performance structural material. By adding 30% carbon fiber, the material gains exceptional tensile strength and an extremely high elastic modulus, with minimal deformation under thermal load. Additionally, the friction coefficient decreases while thermal and electrical conductivity slightly increase, making it perfect for functional and structural automotive parts.

🔧 Composition & Properties

  • Polymer Base: Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) ~70%.
  • Reinforcement: Carbon Fiber (CF) ~30%.
  • Density: ~ 1.45 – 1.55 g/cm³.
  • Operating Range: Constant use up to +150 °C.
  • Visuals: Carbon black or anthracite-grey; extremely rigid with a graphite-like appearance.

🚗 Where it is used in the automotive industry

ComponentExample partsObservations
ECU / Valve HousingsVW, Toyota, RenaultRigidity and thermal shock resistance
Engine Structural PartsBMW, PeugeotResists 150 °C continuous heat
Mounts / ConnectorsFord, MercedesPartial electrical conductivity
Pump / Fan CoversHyundai, DaciaDimensional stability and high hardness

🔧 Welding and Bonding Methods

MethodOptimal TempObservations
Hot Air260 – 280 °CControlled welding without excessive melting
Heat Plate (Mirror)RecommendedSmooth bonding without visible pores
Chemical Bonding⚠️ RestrictedRequires specific polyester primers (Loctite® 770 + 406)

💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: Weld at ~270 °C using digital temperature control or teflon-coated heating plates. PBT+CF30 is the optimal choice for rigid and lightweight automotive parts where high resistance to deformation, heat, and vibration is required.
