🧩 TPS+Bioplast – Bio-Thermoplastic Starch (Bioplast®)
(Eco-friendly, flexible, and fully biodegradable material made from modified vegetable starch combined with aliphatic biodegradable polyesters from the Bioplast® range. Known for its soft touch, natural look, and ease of processing.)
🔹 What is TPS+Bioplast
Bioplast® is a family of starch-based biopolymers. At ReplastMD, we treat it as a premium sustainable choice for interior trim. By combining thermoplastic starch (TPS) with bio-polyesters like PBAT or PLA, a malleable and glossy material is created. In the automotive industry, it is primarily used for ecological decorative parts and prototypes where a low carbon footprint is essential.
🔧 Composition & Properties
- Base: Modified thermoplastic starch (TPS).
- Flexible Phase: Biodegradable polyesters (PBAT / PBS / PLA).
- Density: 1.25 – 1.30 g/cm³.
- Melting Point: 110 – 140 °C.
- Operating Range: –10 °C to +70 °C.
- Scent: Sweet natural scent (starch/glycerol).
🚗 Where TPS+Bioplast is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Eco Interior Elements | Covers, decorations, handles | 100% bio-based, natural gloss |
| Light Flexible Gaskets | Panels, consoles, protectors | Flexible, no synthetic odor |
| Bio Demo Parts | Prototype components | Ideal for eco-design testing |
| Decorative Accents | Non-structural inserts | Matte/natural look, pleasant touch |
🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods
| Method | Optimal Temp | Observations |
| Hot Air | ⚠️ 110 – 130 °C | Possible partial melting, high browning risk |
| Heat Plate (Mirror) | ⚠️ 120 – 130 °C | Slow bonding, uneven melting |
| Manual Extrusion | ❌ Not recommended | Rapid degradation under high heat |
| Chemical Bonding | ✅ Recommended | Bio-polyester or starch adhesives |
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: TPS+Bioplast should not be welded using classic hot-air techniques, as the material caramelizes and becomes brittle. We recommend bio-compatible bonding or discreet mechanical fastening to preserve its natural appearance.
