🧩 TPE-A – Copolyamidic Elastomer (PEBA)
(Premium thermoplastic elastomer obtained by copolymerizing polyethers with polyamides (PA11, PA12). Known as PEBA, it combines rubber-like elasticity with the chemical and thermal resistance of polyamides.)
🔹 What is TPE-A
TPE-A (Polyether Block Amide) is a high-performance material used in precision automotive components. At ReplastMD, we value TPE-A for its light weight and outstanding fatigue resistance. It is highly resistant to oils and aging, maintaining its mechanical properties at temperatures ranging from -40 °C to +150 °C. It is widely considered the top choice for pneumatic lines and high-end gaskets.
🔧 Composition & Properties
- Base: Polyether-polyamide block copolymer (PEBA).
- Density: 1.0 – 1.1 g/cm³.
- Melting Point: 170 – 200 °C.
- Chemical Resistance: Excellent (oils, fuels, greases).
- Low-Temp Performance: Stable down to -40 °C.
🚗 Where TPE-A is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Pneumatic / Fuel | Air, brake, and vacuum lines | Pressure and oil resistant |
| Anti-vibration | Mounts, bushings, pads | Elasticity and fatigue resistance |
| Gaskets & Seals | Engine seals, sensor gaskets | High chemical and thermal stability |
| Flexible Cables | Jackets, cable protectors | Cold flexibility and low wear |
🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods
| Method | Optimal Temp | Observations |
| Hot Air | 240 – 260 °C | Clean, elastic weld; no oxidation |
| Heat Plate (Mirror) | 230 – 250 °C | Smooth, homogeneous bond |
| Manual Extrusion | 240 – 260 °C | Use compatible PEBA / TPE-A rods |
| Ultrasonic | — | Suitable for thin-walled parts |
🔩 Material Compatibility
- ✅ Compatible: TPE-A (same type), TPU, TPE-E, PA12, PA11.
- ⚠️ Partial: TPE, TPO (acceptable with primer).
- ❌ Incompatible: PP, PE, ABS, PVC, POM, PET (different polarities).
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: For optimal welding, use hot air at 250 °C with compatible PEBA rods. Controlled slow cooling prevents warping and ensures a glossy, elastic finish.
🧠 How to Identify TPE-A
- Elastic yet firm with rapid and smooth recovery.
- Texture: Matte-glossy surface, pleasant to the touch.
- Very lightweight (low density).
- ReplastMD practical test: If the part is light, oil-resistant, and welds beautifully at 250 °C without cracking in the cold, it’s TPE-A/PEBA.
- Common markings: >PEEK-A<, >PEBA<, >PEBAX<, >VESTAMID<.
