🧩 PTFE – Polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon®)
(High-performance fluoroplastic with an extremely low friction coefficient, absolute chemical resistance, and thermal stability up to 260°C. Known commercially as Teflon®, it is one of the most inert and resistant materials in existence.)
🔹 What is PTFE
PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) is a fluoropolymer consisting of tetrafluoroethylene units. Its fully fluorinated structure makes it non-stick, non-flammable, hydrophobic, and immune to almost all chemicals. It is a natural self-lubricant, making it the gold standard for bushings, seals, and high-temperature electrical insulation.
🔧 Composition & Properties
- Base: 100% PTFE.
- Density: 2.13–2.20 g/cm³ (very dense).
- Friction Coefficient: Ultra-low (μ ≈ 0.05–0.10).
- Melting Point: ≈ 327 °C (gels instead of flowing).
- Continuous Heat Resistance: 250–260 °C.

🔧 Temperature and Repair Methods

🔩 Material Compatibility
- ✅ Compatible: PTFE, PTFE+GF, PTFE+CF, PTFE+Bronze.
- ⚠️ Good Compatibility: PFA, FEP, ETFE (other fluoropolymers).
- ❌ Incompatible: ABS, PP, PE, PA, POM, PC — zero adhesion, completely different melting points.
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: PTFE cannot be welded with hot air. For minor repairs, we use controlled heat fusion (350–360°C) or chemically activated PTFE adhesives. We often recommend mechanical insertion or segment replacement.
🧠 How to Identify PTFE
- Engraved marking: >PTFE<, >TEFLON<, >DYNEON<, >RULON<.
- Texture: White, matte, waxy surface, extremely slippery.
- ReplastMD practical test: Nothing sticks to it, not even adhesive tape. Does not soften under 300°C. Flame extinguishes immediately without smoke.
