🧩 PPS+Teflon – Polyphenylene Sulfide + PTFE (Teflon®)
(Self-lubricating, thermostable, and chemically inert material, ideal for low-friction parts and extreme wear resistance. PPS+Teflon combines PPS’s thermal stability with the ultra-low friction coefficient of PTFE.)
🔹 What is PPS+Teflon
PPS+PTFE (PPS+Teflon) is a high-performance technical composite created by dispersing 5–15% PTFE (Teflon) particles within the PPS matrix. This combination offers a permanent self-lubricating surface, high heat resistance, and exceptional chemical stability. The material remains mechanically sound even after long-term exposure to 240–260°C, making it perfect for moving precision components.
🔧 Composition & Properties
- Base: 85–95% PPS, 5–15% PTFE.
- Density: 1.40–1.55 g/cm³.
- Friction Coefficient: Very low (≈ 0.05–0.10).
- Melting Point: ≈ 285°C.
- Continuous Heat Resistance: 220–240°C.
🚗 Where PPS+Teflon is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Engine / Thermal | Valves, EGR parts, pumps | Low friction at 240°C |
| Fuel / Braking | Fittings, fluid-contact parts | Self-lubricating and chemically inert |
| Mechanical Parts | Bearings, clips, motion guides | Long service life |
| Electrical / Sensors | Technical housings and covers | High insulation and stability |
🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods
| Method | Optimal Temp | Observations |
| Hot Air | 300 – 330 °C | Slow melting, flow control is essential |
| Plastic Extrusion | 290 – 310 °C | Requires PPS or PPS+PTFE rod |
| Heat Plate (Mirror) | 290 – 320 °C | Clean bonding, no oxidation |
🔩 Material Compatibility
- ✅ Compatible: PPS, PPS+GF, PPS+CF, PPS+PEI, PPS+PEEK.
- ⚠️ Good Compatibility: PA+PPS, PBT+PPS, PPA, PSU, PES.
- ❌ Incompatible: PP, PE, PS, ABS, PC, PET (completely different melting points).
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: Use PPS or PPS+PTFE rods at 310°C. Heat the area uniformly but avoid excessive pressure—PTFE reduces adhesion, so a light but precise touch is needed for a strong bond.
🧠 How to Identify PPS+Teflon
- Engraved marking: >PPS+PTFE<, >PPS+Teflon<, >RYTON TF<.
- Texture: Matte, very fine, and slippery/smooth to the touch.
- ReplastMD practical test: If the part is smooth, slippery, and hard to scratch with a PPS+PTFE mark, it’s confirmed. Burns with a blue flame and a faint sulfur scent.
