🧩 PPS+PEEK – Polyphenylene Sulfide + PolyEther-Ether-Ketone
(Ultra-high performance material designed for extreme automotive and aerospace applications. PPS+PEEK combines the chemical inertness of PPS with the wear and temperature resistance of PEEK, sustaining over $280$ °C.)
🔹 What is PPS+PEEK
PPS+PEEK is a compatibilized blend of two of the most resistant thermoplastics in existence. PPS provides dimensional stability and chemical resistance, while PEEK contributes mechanical strength, hardness, and top-tier thermal performance. This self-lubricating, rigid, and inert material is ideal for critical parts in direct contact with boiling oils, fuels, steam, and hot gases.
🔧 Composition & Properties
- Base: $40–70$% PPS, $30–60$% PEEK.
- Density: $1.45–1.55$ g/cm³.
- Melting Point: ≈ $290–320$ °C.
- Chemical Resistance: Exceptional (oils, solvents, fuels, acids).
- Continuous Heat Resistance: $250–280$ °C.
🚗 Where PPS+PEEK is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Engine / Thermal | EGR parts, valves, pumps | Operational up to $280$ °C |
| Fuel / Braking | Pressure fittings, wear parts | Chemical and friction resistant |
| Electrical Systems | Coil housings, bobbins | Superior thermal and electrical insulation |
| Mechanical Parts | Mounts, brackets, tech covers | Rigid, self-lubricating, flame retardant |
🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods
| Method | Optimal Temp | Observations |
| Hot Air | $330 – 360$ °C | Controlled melting, dense and uniform flow |
| Plastic Extrusion | $320 – 340$ °C | Requires PPS+PEEK or pure PEEK rod |
| Heat Plate (Mirror) | $320 – 340$ °C | Clean bond, no oxidation |
🔩 Material Compatibility
- ✅ Compatible: PPS, PEEK, PPS+GF, PPS+CF, PPS+PEI, PSU, PPSU.
- ⚠️ Good Compatibility: PPA, PEI+GF, PEEK+GF.
- ❌ Incompatible: PP, PE, PS, ABS, PC, PET (completely different melting points).
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: Use PEEK or PPS+PEEK rods at $340$ °C. Heating must be progressive and precisely controlled—these materials have a narrow thermal window. Slow cooling after welding is recommended to avoid internal stresses.
🧠 How to Identify PPS+PEEK
- Engraved marking: >PPS+PEEK<, >VICTREX<, >VESTAKEEP<, >RYTON PEEK<.
- Texture: Matte black or dark brown, extremely rigid surface.
- ReplastMD practical test: Does not deform even at $300$°C hot air; if the part is rigid and heavy with these markings, it’s confirmed. Burns with a blue flame and a faint sulfur/ketone scent.
