🧩 PPS+Noryl – Polyphenylene Sulfide + Noryl® (PPO/PA blend)

(A high-performance technical hybrid material combining the thermal and chemical resistance of PPS with the dimensional stability and controlled rigidity of Noryl®. Lightweight and resistant up to 230°C.)

🔹 What is PPS+Noryl

PPS+Noryl is a compatibilized blend of PPS and Noryl® (PPO/PA). This combination offers significant weight reduction compared to pure PPS, improved impact and vibration resistance, and minimal shrinkage. It is frequently used in technical OEM parts that require a balance between extreme rigidity and a slight degree of elasticity to survive harsh automotive environments.

🔧 Composition & Properties

  • Base: 50–70% PPS, 30–50% Noryl® (PPO/PA / PPE/PS).
  • Density: 1.30–1.45 g/cm³.
  • Melting Point: ≈ 270–285 °C.
  • Chemical Resistance: Excellent (oils, fuels, solvents).
  • Continuous Heat Resistance: 200–230 °C.

🚗 Where PPS+Noryl is used in the automotive industry

ComponentExample partsObservations
Engine / ThermalSensor covers, pumps, EGR housingsStability up to 230 °C
Electrical / ConnectorsHousings, guides, sensor platesRigidity + good insulation
Fuel / BrakingFittings, valves, pressure partsChemically inert, low shrinkage
Structural / SupportsCovers, clips, framesLightweight, rigid, stable

🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods

MethodOptimal TempObservations
Hot Air300 – 320 °CUniform melting, precise control
Plastic Extrusion290 – 310 °CSuitable for thick technical parts
Heat Plate (Mirror)290 – 310 °CClean bonding, no oxidation

🔩 Material Compatibility

  • Compatible: PPS, PA+PPS, Noryl GTX®, PPS+GF, PA+PPE.
  • ⚠️ Good Compatibility: PEI, PSU, PES, PPSU, PPA.
  • Incompatible: PP, PE, PS, ABS, PC, PET (completely different melting points).

💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: Use PPS or PPS+Noryl rods at 310°C. Heating must be uniform and overheating should be avoided to prevent phase separation. Slow cooling ensures a homogeneous and durable bond.

🧠 How to Identify PPS+Noryl

  • Engraved marking: >PPS+NORYL<, >NORYL GTX<, >RYTON N<, >FORTRON N<.
  • Texture: Semi-glossy, rigid, slightly elastic to the touch.
  • ReplastMD practical test: If the part is rigid but slightly flexible with a matte-satin finish and PPS+Noryl markings, it’s confirmed. Softens at ≈ 280 °C.
