🧩 PPS+CF – Polyphenylene Sulfide + Carbon Fiber

(Ultra-resistant and thermostable material created for extreme applications requiring hardness, rigidity, electrical conductivity, and resistance up to $240$ °C+. A premium composite used in high-precision technical housings.)

🔹 What is PPS+CF

PPS+CF is an elite technical material obtained by reinforcing PPS with $10–30$% carbon fiber. Carbon fibers provide superior rigidity and near-zero warping at high temperatures, along with increased thermal and electrical conductivity. It is lighter than glass-fiber variants and features a high-quality matte-black metallic look. It excels in resistance to oils, fuels, acids, and mechanical pressure.

🔧 Composition & Properties

  • Base: $70–90$% Polyphenylene Sulfide (PPS).
  • Reinforcement: $10–30$% Carbon Fiber (CF).
  • Density: $1.50–1.60$ g/cm³.
  • Melting Point: ≈ $285$ °C.
  • Chemical Resistance: Exceptional (oils, fuels, solvents).
  • Continuous Heat Resistance: $220–250$ °C.

🚗 Where PPS+CF is used in the automotive industry

ComponentExample partsObservations
Engine / ThermalCovers, valves, pumps, fittingsStability above $240$ °C, extreme rigidity
Electrical / SensorsConnectors, sensor platesGood electrical conductivity
Fuel / BrakingPressure or fluid contact partsChemically inert, zero deformation
Technical StructuresRigid housings and supportsLow weight, high mechanical strength

🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods

MethodOptimal TempObservations
Hot Air$310 – 340$ °CSlow melting, flow control, avoid sparks
Plastic Extrusion$300 – 320$ °CRequires PPS+CF rod, dense flow
Heat Plate (Mirror)$300 – 320$ °CClean bond, no bubbles

🔩 Material Compatibility

  • Compatible: PPS, PPS+GF, PPS+GF40, PEEK+PPS, PA+PPS, PBT+PPS.
  • ⚠️ Good Compatibility: PEI, PES, PSU, PPSU.
  • Incompatible: PP, PE, PS, ABS, PET (completely different melting points).

💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: Use PPS+CF or pure PPS rods at $320$ °C. Heat uniformly and avoid high pressure—the material is rigid and can crack under shear. For the finish, a quick pass with hot air can achieve a uniform matte appearance.

🧠 How to Identify PPS+CF

  • Engraved marking: >PPS+CF<, >RYTON CF<, >FORTRON CF30<.
  • Texture: Matte black surface with fine metallic reflections.
  • ReplastMD practical test: Extremely rigid, slightly conductive. Softens at ≈ $290$ °C. Burns with a blue flame and a faint sulfur scent.
