🧩 PP+EPDM – EPDM Rubber Modified Polypropylene
(Highly elastic and impact-resistant weldable plastic, used in car bumpers and flexible exterior parts)
🔹 What is PP+EPDM
PP+EPDM is a blend of polypropylene (PP) with EPDM synthetic rubber (Ethylene-Propylene-Diene-Monomer).
The result is an elastic material, resistant to shocks, cold, and vibrations, with a soft and flexible texture, ideal for automotive parts exposed to impacts and deformations.
This type of plastic is widely used in OEM car bumpers and is fully compatible with standard ReplastMD welding methods.
🔧 Composition
- PP (Polypropylene) – thermoplastic base
- EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) – elastic rubber 10–30%
- Additives – UV stabilizers, antioxidants, technical pigments
- Variants: PP+EPDM10, PP+EPDM20, PP+EPDM-TD, PP+EPDM-GF
🚗 Where PP+EPDM is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Body / Exterior | Bumpers, spoilers, mudguards | Elastic, impact and cold resistant |
| Interior | Covers, flexible panels | Matte surface, crack resistant |
| Engine Compartment | Seals, protective covers | Good vibration resistance |
| Aftermarket / Tuning | Sport bumpers, extensions, liners | Easy to weld and durable over time |
🔧 Welding temperatures and methods
| Method | Optimal temperature | Observations |
| Hot air | 260 – 280 °C | Uniform melting, no bubbles |
| Heat plate (mirror) | 250 – 270 °C | Clean, controlled bonding |
| Manual extrusion | 240 – 260 °C | For long cracks and corners |
| Ultrasonic | — | Industrial use only |
🔩 What to weld PP+EPDM with (Material compatibility)
The question “what to weld PP+EPDM with” is very common in workshops.
The material remains part of the PP family, so it is welded with PP or PP+EPDM with a similar composition.
✅ Compatible:
- PP+EPDM ↔ PP+EPDM – ideal combination, elastic and durable weld
- PP+EPDM ↔ PP+HI / PP-C / PP-H – very good compatibility
- PP+EPDM ↔ PP-TD / PP-MD – partially compatible, different rigidity
- PP+EPDM ↔ PE-LD – possible, but with poor adhesion
❌ Incompatible:
- ABS, ASA, PC, PA, PVC – different melting, no molecular bond
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation:
Use original PP+EPDM or PP-C welding rods at a temperature of 270–280 °C.
Clean the oxidation zone before welding and avoid overheating — EPDM rubber can generate bubbles if burned.

🧠 How to identify PP+EPDM
- Engraved marking: >PP-EPDM< or >TPO< (ThermoPlastic Olefin)
- Yellow-blue flame, faint paraffin smell
- Soft material, slightly elastic, floats in water
- Slow melting, no bubbles at 270 °C
- Does not become brittle in the cold
💡 ReplastMD Practical Test: If the bumper softens uniformly, returns to shape after cooling, and does not crack when bent → it is PP-EPDM (TPO).
