🧩 PP-TD20 – 20% Talc Filled Polypropylene
(Rigid semi-crystalline material based on Polypropylene (PP) filled with 20% talc (TD20))
🔹 What is PP-TD20
PP-TD20 is one of the most common compositions in the automotive industry for exterior and interior parts, as well as technical housings, offering a very good balance of rigidity, weight, thermal stability, and cost.
It is a medium-mineralized material (20% fine talc) with good mechanical strength, low shrinkage, and a uniform surface, while maintaining high processability through injection molding. Compared to PP-TD10 or PP-TD30 variants, it offers the most balanced combination of stiffness, elasticity, and weight.
🔧 Composition
| Component | Typical Proportion | Role |
| Polypropylene (PP) | 78–80 % | Structural matrix, dimensional stability |
| Talc (TD20) | 20 % | Stiffening, thermal stabilization |
| Additives | < 5 % | UV protection and technical finishing |
🚗 Automotive Applications
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Engine Covers | Upper covers, protections | Good thermal stability |
| Lower Panels | Shields, under-engine housings | Rigidity + vibration resistance |
| Grilles / Brackets | Frames, sensor mounts, bumper corners | Semi-flexible, UV stable |
| Interior Components | Plates, technical consoles | Uniform finish, non-glossy |
🔩 Welding Compatibility
| Mating Material | Compatibility | Observations |
| Plain PP, TD10/30, MD20 | ✅ Excellent | Weldable – common structure |
| PP-EPDM-TD, TPO-TD20 | ⚠️ Fair | Partially compatible (elasticity difference) |
| TPE-O, TPE-V | ⚠️ Limited | Partially weldable, local only |
| PA, PC, PVC, ABS, PET | ❌ Incompatible | Thermally and chemically incompatible |

🛠️ PP-TD20 Welding at ReplastMD
| Method | Temperature | Observations |
| Hot Air | 230 – 250 °C | Recommended – Plain PP or PP-TD20 rod |
| Heat plate (Mirror) | 220 – 240 °C | Clean, uniform bonding |
| Extrusion | 230 – 250 °C | For long and thick cracks |
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: use PP-TD20 or pure PP welding rods, clean with isopropyl alcohol, and maintain constant air flow.
