🧩 PP-TD15 – 15% Talc Filled Polypropylene
(Rigid-semiflexible semi-crystalline material based on Polypropylene (PP) filled with 15% talc (TD15))
🔹 What is PP-TD15
PP-TD15 is one of the most widely used variants for exterior and interior automotive parts, offering a good balance between rigidity, low weight, and thermal stability without compromising processability.
It is a mineralized polypropylene compound featuring fine natural talc powder uniformly distributed throughout the polymer matrix. The 15% concentration provides moderate stiffening while maintaining the necessary elasticity for applications subject to vibrations or slight deformations.
🔧 Composition
| Component | Typical Proportion | Role |
| Polypropylene (PP) | 85 % | Structural matrix, dimensional stability |
| Talc (TD15) | 15 % | Stiffening, shrinkage reduction |
| Additives | < 5 % | Aging protection and processability |
🚗 Automotive Applications
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Engine Covers | Upper covers, brackets | Good thermal stability |
| Interior Panels | Under-shields, lower covers | Semi-flexible, lightweight |
| Grilles and Trims | Front grilles, frames, supports | Matte, uniform finish |
| Thick-walled Parts | Sensor mounts, wheel covers | Medium mechanical resistance |
🔩 Welding Compatibility
| Mating Material | Compatibility | Observations |
| Plain PP, TD10/20, MD15/20 | ✅ Excellent | Weldable – identical structure |
| PP-EPDM-TD, TPO-TD | ⚠️ Fair | Partially compatible (elasticity difference) |
| TPE-O, TPE-V | ⚠️ Limited | Partially weldable |
| PA, PC, PVC, ABS, PET | ❌ Incompatible | Thermally and chemically incompatible |

🛠️ PP-TD15 Welding at ReplastMD
| Method | Temperature | Observations |
| Hot Air | 230 – 250 °C | Recommended – Plain PP or PP-TD20 rod |
| Heat plate (Mirror) | 220 – 240 °C | Stable bonding, no shrinkage |
| Extrusion | 230 – 250 °C | Recommended for high thicknesses |
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: use PP-TD or pure PP welding rods, clean with isopropyl alcohol, and maintain controlled hot air flow.
