🧩 PP-EPDM-MD20 – Polypropylene + EPDM + Mineral 20%
(Mineral-reinforced elastic olefinic material composed of Polypropylene (PP), EPDM rubber, and 20% mineral filler (MD20))
🔹 What is PP-EPDM-MD20
PP-EPDM-MD20 is a complex composition of PP and EPDM with treated mineral additions (calcite, silicate, dolomite) to increase rigidity and stability at high temperatures.
This material offers a matte, dense, and UV-stable surface, featuring good mechanical strength and controlled flexibility. It serves as an alternative to PP-EPDM-TD20 but with a more homogeneous texture and higher density. It is used in exterior, lower, and technical automotive components where impact resistance, thermal stability, and controlled elastic behavior are required.
🔧 Composition
| Component | Typical Proportion | Role |
| PP (Polypropylene) | 55–60 % | Rigid structural matrix |
| EPDM (Synthetic Rubber) | 20–25 % | Elasticity, shock resistance |
| Mineral (MD20) | 20 % | Stiffening and dimensional stabilization |
| Additives | < 5 % | Long-term protection and durability |
🚗 Automotive Applications
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Bumpers and Diffusers | Corners, extensions, sill panels | Semi-flexible, matte finish |
| Lower Protections / Panels | Under-shields, technical casings | Thermal and vibration resistance |
| Wheel Arches / Liners | Wheel housings, protective covers | Thermally stable, controlled elasticity |
| Engine Covers / Trim | Aesthetic covers, frames, front shields | UV stability and wear resistance |
🔩 Welding Compatibility
| Mating Material | Compatibility | Observations |
| PP-EPDM, M20, TPO, TEO | ✅ Excellent | Excellent welding – common family |
| Plain PP, TD20, TX20 | ⚠️ Fair | Partially compatible |
| TPE-O, TPE-V | ⚠️ Low | Partially weldable (different elasticity) |
| PA, PC, ABS, PET, PVC | ❌ Incompatible | Chemically and thermally incompatible |

🛠️ PP-EPDM-MD20 Welding at ReplastMD
| Method | Temperature | Observations |
| Hot Air | 230 – 250 °C | Recommended – PP-EPDM / TPO rod |
| Heat plate (Mirror) | 220 – 240 °C | Uniform bonding, no shrinkage |
| Extrusion | 230 – 250 °C | For thick or stressed zones |
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: use PP-EPDM or TPO welding rods, clean thoroughly, and use controlled air flow.
