🧩 POE+PP – Polyolefin Elastomer with Polypropylene
(A flexible polyolefin composite obtained by combining POE with PP to create a durable, lightweight material with excellent shock absorption and cold-weather flexibility.)
🔹 What is POE+PP
POE+PP is a high-performance engineering blend, often used as an advanced alternative to standard TPO. At ReplastMD, we treat it as a “high-impact” specialist. While PP provides the chemical matrix, the POE segments (octene or butene-based) offer elasticity, allowing the part to absorb mechanical shocks without cracking at negative temperatures. It is a preferred material for bumpers, caps, and flexible aesthetic trim where weight reduction and recyclability are key.
🔧 Composition & Properties
- Polymer Base: Polypropylene (PP) ~70%.
- Elastomer: Polyolefin Elastomer (POE) ~30%.
- Density: ~ 0.90 – 0.95 g/cm³.
- Processing Temp: 230 – 250 °C.
- Visuals: Semi-soft, slightly rubbery; matte black, dark grey, or textured.
🚗 Where it is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Bumpers & Mudguards | VW, Toyota, Peugeot | Excellent impact and vibration resistance |
| Flexible Gaskets | BMW, Renault | Thermal stability and elasticity |
| Soft Interior/Exterior Panels | Hyundai, Dacia | Soft texture, scratch-resistant |
| Masking Elements | Mercedes, Ford | Mechanical damping + good paint adhesion |
🔧 Welding and Bonding Methods
| Method | Optimal Temp | Observations |
| Hot Air | 230 – 250 °C | Clean weld without excessive melting |
| Heat Plate (Mirror) | ✅ Recommended | Uniform bonding without pores |
| Chemical Bonding | ⚠️ Restricted | Requires PP primer (Loctite® 770 + 406) |
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: Weld at ~240 °C using controlled hot air or teflon-coated heating plates. POE+PP is the perfect choice for bumpers, shields, and flexible gaskets, offering durability and UV stability.
