🧩 PLA+PHA – Bio-Blend (Biodegradable)

(Biocompatible and compostable material produced via bio-fermentation. Designed for applications requiring a balance between hardness and elasticity. PLA+PHA is used for lightweight covers and bio-interior panels, offering a glossy and dense finish.)

🔹 What is PLA+PHA

PLA+PHA is a bio-hybrid blend combining Polylactic Acid (PLA) with PHA biopolymers (e.g., PHB, PHBV). At ReplastMD, we use this blend because the PHA component adds much-needed flexibility and impact resistance, significantly reducing the brittleness of pure PLA. The material boasts a high natural gloss and controlled thermal behavior, making it easily weldable at low temperatures.

🔧 Composition & Properties

  • Polymer Base: PLA + PHA.
  • Source: Bio-fermentation (sugar, vegetable oils, starch).
  • Density: 1.23 – 1.26 g/cm³.
  • Melting Point: 150 – 170 °C.
  • Operating Range: –10 °C to +90 °C.
  • Chemical Resistance: Good (oils, greases, cold detergents).

🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods

MethodOptimal TempObservations
Hot Air✅ 110 – 130 °CWelds slowly and cleanly, smoke-free
Heat Plate (Mirror)✅ 120 – 130 °CSmooth, glossy bonding
Manual Extrusion⚠️ 130 – 140 °CPossible, requires constant pressure
Chemical BondingRecommendedBio-polyester or epoxy adhesives

💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: PLA+PHA is best welded at 120 °C with hot air, resulting in a smooth, clear, and glossy joint. Maintain constant pressure during cooling to ensure structural integrity.
