🧩 PLA+BioFlex – Flexible PLA (BioFlex® F-series)
(Biodegradable and bio-based material produced by FKuR Kunststoff GmbH (Germany). BioFlex® combines the rigidity of PLA with the elasticity of PBAT, offering a pleasant, glossy, and malleable texture.)
🔹 What is PLA+BioFlex
PLA+BioFlex is a bio-hybrid blend of PLA (Polylactic Acid) and PBAT (Polybutylene Adipate Terephthalate). At ReplastMD, we treat this material as a premium eco-flexible option. It is fully biodegradable, smooth, and resistant to cracking, with a rubbery feel and excellent surface gloss. It serves as a sustainable solution for flexible gaskets and soft-touch interior components.
🔧 Composition & Properties
- Polymer Base: PLA + PBAT (flexible bio-polyester).
- Density: 1.22 – 1.25 g/cm³.
- Melting Point: 120 – 130 °C.
- Operating Range: –20 °C to +80 °C.
- Chemical Resistance: Good (oils, greases, cold water).
- UV Resistance: Moderate.
🚗 Where PLA+BioFlex is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Bio Flexible Caps | Protectors, plugs, soft inserts | Elastic, glossy, compostable |
| Soft Interior Trim | Panels, handles, decorations | Pleasant touch, natural feel |
| Bio Films & Layers | Protective layers, foils | High flexibility |
| Demo Bio Parts | Flexible samples/prototypes | Easy to process and inject |
🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods
| Method | Optimal Temp | Observations |
| Hot Air | ✅ 110 – 130 °C | Easy to weld, clean flow, smoke-free |
| Heat Plate (Mirror) | ✅ 120 – 130 °C | Smooth, glossy bonding |
| Manual Extrusion | ⚠️ 130 – 140 °C | Possible, but requires fine control |
| Chemical Bonding | ✅ Recommended | Bio-compatible polyester adhesives |
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: PLA+BioFlex welds perfectly at 120 °C. Cooling should be slow and protected from drafts to prevent surface tension and ensure a crystal-clear, elastic bond.
