🧩 PHA+PBS – Bio-Copolymer (PBS + PHA)

(Advanced biodegradable material resulting from a blend of PBS (polybutylene succinate) and PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate). It combines the mechanical and thermal resistance of PBS with the elasticity and flexibility of PHA.)

🔹 What is PHA+PBS

PHA+PBS is a bio-hybrid copolymer that unites two complementary bioplastic families. At ReplastMD, we treat it as a biodegradable elastomer. PBS provides structural rigidity and heat stability, while PHA adds softness and flexibility. The result is a material with optimized mechanical properties that is easy to inject and weld at moderate temperatures, ideal for eco-friendly gaskets and interior inserts.

🔧 Composition & Properties

  • Polymer Base: PBS + PHA.
  • Density: 1.22 – 1.26 g/cm³.
  • Melting Point: 110 – 125 °C.
  • Operating Range: –25 °C to +85 °C.
  • Chemical Resistance: Good (oils, water, detergents).
  • UV Resistance: Moderate.

🚗 Where PHA+PBS is used in the automotive industry

🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods

MethodOptimal TempObservations
Hot Air✅ 110 – 130 °CEasy to weld, uniform melting
Heat Plate (Mirror)✅ 120 – 130 °CSmooth, glossy bond
Manual Extrusion⚠️ 130 – 140 °CPossible, but requires careful control
Chemical BondingRecommendedBio-compatible polyester adhesives

💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: PHA+PBS welds excellently at 120 °C, combining the melting ease of PBS with the bio-flow of PHA. The resulting joint is clear, glossy, and elastic, perfect for high-quality sustainable components.
