🧩 PFA – Perfluoroalkoxy (Thermoplastic Fluoropolymer)
(High-performance fluoroplastic similar to PTFE (Teflon®), but processable via injection molding and extrusion. PFA combines total chemical inertness with thermal weldability.)
🔹 What is PFA
PFA (Perfluoroalkoxy) is a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) and perfluoroalkyl vinyl ether (PPVE). It is fully fluorinated, like PTFE, but unlike its famous sibling, PFA can be melted, injected, and thermally welded. It is chosen for applications where PTFE’s chemical resistance is needed, but complex shapes or welded joints are required.
🔧 Composition & Properties
- Base: 85–90% TFE, 10–15% PPVE.
- Density: 2.12–2.17 g/cm³.
- Melting Point: 305–310 °C.
- Chemical Resistance: Total (acids, bases, solvents).
- Continuous Heat Resistance: 250–260 °C.

🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods

🔩 Material Compatibility
- ✅ Compatible: PFA, FEP, ETFE, PTFE (with surface treatment).
- ⚠️ Good Compatibility: PVDF, ECTFE, MFA (other fluoropolymers).
- ❌ Incompatible: ABS, PP, PE, PC, PA, POM, PVC, PET.
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: Use PFA or FEP rods at 330 °C. Perfectly clean the surface; avoid any oil or dust contamination. Allow for slow cooling to ensure a perfect seal.
🧠 How to Identify PFA
- Engraved marking: >PFA<, >TEFLON PFA<, >HYFLON<, >NEOFLON<.
- Texture: Glossy, translucent, very smooth surface.
- ReplastMD practical test: If the part is semi-transparent, smooth, and nothing sticks to it, it’s PFA. Burns with a clean flame and self-extinguishes immediately.
