PET+R – Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate

PET+R is an eco-friendly and economical material obtained through the controlled recycling of technical or industrial virgin PET waste. PET+R retains the hardness, dimensional stability, and chemical resistance of the original PET, being widely used in housings, covers, frames, supports, and secondary automotive parts with a reduced environmental impact.

🔹 What is PET+R PET+R represents recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (rPET), obtained by collecting, sorting, grinding, and regranulating existing PET parts or films. Through modern filtration and extrusion processes, the material regains technical characteristics comparable to virgin PET, but at a lower cost and with a carbon footprint reduced by up to 60%. There are two main variants:

  • Post-industrial rPET – sourced from production scraps, offering superior quality.
  • Post-consumer rPET – sourced from collected packaging or parts, with variable quality.

🔧 Composition and Properties

  • Composition: 90–100% Recycled PET.
  • Density: 1.35–1.40 g/cm³.
  • Melting Point: ≈ 250 °C.
  • Chemical Resistance: Good (oils, fuels, solvents).
  • Continuous Thermal Resistance: 110–130 °C.

🚗 Automotive Applications

  • Housings and Covers: Sensors, connectors, secondary parts (rigid, oil-resistant).
  • Technical Interior: Frames, covers, panels (matte finish, dimensionally stable).
  • Engine / Technical Compartment: Supports, guides, clips (good chemical resistance).
  • Ecological Parts: Aftermarket and OEM eco-parts (low cost, high sustainability).

🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods

  • Hot Air: 260 – 270 °C (uniform, slightly slower melting).
  • Heat Plate: 250 – 265 °C (clean joint, watch for oxidized material).
  • Manual Extrusion: 250 – 265 °C (suitable for thick and recycled parts).

🔩 Welding Compatibility

  • Excellent Compatibility: PET, PBT, PBT+PET, PET+BIO, PET+PC, PETG, PBT+R.
  • Good Compatibility: PC+PBT, POM+PBT, PBT+GF.
  • Incompatible: PP, PE, PS, ABS, PMMA, PVC, PA.

💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: Use PET or PBT welding rod at 265–270 °C. Clean the area of any oxides or impurities before welding. Avoid overheating – recycled material may contain slight inclusions that carbonize easily.
