🧩 PEEK+PA – Polyether Ether Ketone + Polyamide
(Hybrid technical material combining the thermal resistance of PEEK with the elasticity of polyamide (PA). Offers a balance between hardness and flexibility, used in fittings and sensor housings with controlled expansion.)
🔹 What is PEEK+PA
PEEK+PA is a semi-crystalline blend resulting from combining PEEK with Polyamide (PA6, PA66, or PA12). The main purpose is to reduce the brittleness of pure PEEK and achieve adaptable mechanical resistance without losing high thermal stability. This compound is used where parts must withstand thermal stress and vibration while maintaining aluminum-like mechanical strength.
🔧 Composition & Properties
- Base: 60–80% PEEK.
- Modifier: 20–40% Polyamide (PA).
- Density: 1.30–1.38 g/cm³.
- Melting Point: ≈ 340 °C.
- Chemical Resistance: Excellent (oils, fuels, solvents).
- Continuous Heat Resistance: 230–250 °C.
🚗 Where PEEK+PA is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Engine / Thermal | Fittings, pumps, EGR covers | Thermal stability + local flexibility |
| Fuel / Braking | Valves, gaskets, connectors | Pressure and chemical resistance |
| Electrical / Sensors | Housings, covers, clips | Good insulation and low water absorption |
| Structural Parts | Intermediate parts, clips | Easier to process than pure PEEK |
🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods
| Method | Optimal Temp | Observations |
| Hot Air | 370 – 390 °C | Slow melting, controlled flow |
| Plastic Extrusion | 360 – 390 °C | Compatible with PEEK or PEEK+PA rods |
| Heat Plate (Mirror) | 360 – 380 °C | Clean bond, zero oxidation |
🔩 Material Compatibility
- ✅ Compatible: PEEK, PEEK+GF, PA66, PA12, PPS, PPSU, PEI.
- ⚠️ Good Compatibility: PPA, PES, PEEK blends.
- ❌ Incompatible: PP, PE, PS, ABS, PC, PVC (completely different melting points).
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: Use PEEK rods at 380 °C. Slow heating ensures a uniform bond between PEEK and PA phases. Avoid rapid cooling—differences in shrinkage rates can generate internal stresses in the weld area.
🧠 How to Identify PEEK+PA
- Engraved marking: >PEEK+PA<, >VICTREX<, >VESTAKEEP<, >TECAPEEK<.
- Texture: Matte, rigid but slightly elastic under high pressure.
- ReplastMD practical test: If the part is rigid but not brittle, resists 250 °C hot air, and has PEEK+PA markings, it’s confirmed. Burns with a faint ketone and amide scent.
