🧩 PC+PET – Polycarbonate + Polyethylene Terephthalate
(Technical hybrid material with high impact, chemical, and high-temperature resistance. The combination of PC and PET offers dimensional stability, hardness, and good wear resistance. Used in technical car parts, covers, brackets, and electrical housings.)
🔹 What is PC+PET
PC+PET is a thermoplastic technical blend consisting of polycarbonate (PC) – for rigidity, mechanical and thermal strength, and PET (polyethylene terephthalate) – for dimensional stability and chemical resistance.
This combination results in a tough material with low shrinkage, low water absorption, and excellent mechanical fatigue resistance. PC+PET is used in applications requiring stable, precise parts resistant to oils, fuels, and temperatures exceeding 120 °C.
🔧 Composition
- Polycarbonate (PC): 50–70 %
- PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate): 30–50 %
- Thermal / UV / Lubricant Additives: 1–3 %
- Density: 1.28–1.33 g/cm³
- Melting Point: ≈ 230–250 °C
- Chemical Resistance: Excellent (oils, fuels, mild solvents).
- Heat Resistance: Very good (up to 130 °C in continuous operation).
🚗 Where PC+PET is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Engine Bay | Covers, brackets, technical housings | High thermal stability and chemical resistance |
| Electrical Systems | Connector housings, sensor covers | Excellent insulation and durability |
| Technical Interior | Fastening parts, supports, clips | High rigidity, low shrinkage |
| Technical Exterior | Non-visible structural parts | Stable behavior under vibration and heat |
🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods
| Method | Optimal Temperature | Observations |
| Hot Air | 270 – 300 °C | Controlled melting, requires uniform heating |
| Heat Plate (Mirror) | 260 – 290 °C | Ideal for thick housings and flat joints |
| Manual Extrusion | 260 – 290 °C | For long cracks and consolidations |
🔩 What to Weld PC+PET With (Material Compatibility)
The thermal and chemical behavior of PC+PET is close to PC+PBT, but with slightly superior oxidation resistance and lower shrinkage.
✅ Compatible with:
- PC+PET ↔ PC / PET / PC+PBT / PC+ABS / PC+GF – good bond.
- PC+PET ↔ PC+PET (other grades) – excellent compatibility.
❌ Incompatible with:
- PP, PE, PA, PVC, PS, simple ABS, TPO – completely different melting points.
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation:
Use PC+PET or PC+ABS rods at 275–295 °C. Heating must be done gradually to avoid oxidation. Slow cooling helps prevent internal stresses and maintains part stability.
