🔹 What is PC+Makrolon
Makrolon® is the trade name for high-performance polycarbonate developed by Covestro (formerly Bayer MaterialScience). “PC+Makrolon” refers to pure polycarbonate or derivative blends based on Makrolon®, often modified with flame retardants, elastomers, or fibers.
The material is recognized for its superior optical clarity, thermal stability, and excellent rigidity, making it the top choice for car parts that must endure over time without deformation or yellowing.

- Polycarbonate (Makrolon® PC): 95–100 % (pure base).
- Optional Additives: 0–5 % (UV stabilizers, antistatics, flame retardants).
- Density: 1.19–1.21 g/cm³.
- Melting Point: ≈ 230–240 °C.
- Chemical Resistance: Moderate (sensitive to strong solvents).
- Transparency: Up to 90 % (glass-like optical clarity).

🔩 What to Weld PC+Makrolon With (Material Compatibility)
As pure or modified polycarbonate, Makrolon has broad compatibility with other materials in the PC family.
✅ Compatible with:
- PC+Makrolon ↔ PC / Lexan / PC+ABS / PC+ASA / PC+PMMA – ideal.
- PC+Makrolon ↔ PC+PBT / PC+GF / PC+HI / PC+FR – good bond.
❌ Incompatible with:
- PP, PE, PA, PVC, PS, simple ABS, TPO – different melting points.
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation:
Use original Covestro PC or Makrolon rods at 265–280 °C. Heating must be slow and uniform — avoid overheating, which leads to yellowing. After welding, optical gloss can be restored with a quick hot air pass or fine polish.

- Engraved marking: >PC<, >Makrolon<, >Bayer<, >Covestro<.
- Glossy or transparent surface, very rigid.
- Natural color: colorless, smoked grey, glossy black.
- Softens at ≈ 260 °C without bubbling.
