🔹 What is PC/PBT – Xenoy®
Xenoy® is the SABIC trade name for the PC+PBT blend, combining the toughness and impact resistance of polycarbonate with the thermal and chemical stability of PBT.
The result is a lightweight, durable, dimensionally stable material that does not deform under load and exceptionally resists oils, fuels, and severe environmental conditions. Xenoy® is widely used for technical parts in the engine bay, covers, housings, and fasteners.
🔧 Composition
- Polycarbonate (PC): 50–70 %
- Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT): 30–50 %
- Stabilizer Additives (UV / Thermal): 1–3 %
- Density: 1.25–1.30 g/cm³
- Melting Point: ≈ 230–250 °C
- Chemical Resistance: Excellent (oils, fuels, greases, mild solvents).
- Continuous Heat Resistance: Up to 130 °C.

🔩 What to Weld PC/PBT With (Material Compatibility)
The PC+PBT blend has good compatibility with pure polycarbonate and other similar technical blends.
✅ Compatible with:
- PC/PBT ↔ PC / PC+ABS / PC+PET / PC+GF / PC+ASA – good bond.
- PC/PBT ↔ Xenoy® / Makroblend® / PC+PBT – excellent compatibility.
❌ Incompatible with:
- PP, PE, PA, PVC, PS, simple ABS, TPO – different shrinkage and melting points.
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation:
Use PC+PBT rods or original SABIC Xenoy® rods at 270–290 °C. Uniform heating and slow cooling ensure a stable joint.
🧠 How to Identify PC/PBT – Xenoy®
- Engraved marking: >PC+PBT<, >PBT/PC<, >Xenoy<, >SABIC<.
- Matte or semi-glossy surface, hard, medium weight.
- Color: dark grey, black, or anthracite.
- Softens at ≈ 270 °C without bubbling.
- Faint, slightly sweet odor during burning.
- ReplastMD practical test: if the part is rigid, dense, marked >Xenoy<, and stays stable under hot air – it is confirmed SABIC Xenoy® technical blend.
