🧩 PA+PPO – Polyamide + Polyphenylene Oxide (Noryl GTX®)
(Advanced blend of polyamide (PA6 / PA66) and polyphenylene oxide (PPO), commercially known as Noryl GTX®. A material with high rigidity, excellent chemical resistance, and remarkable dimensional stability, used in structural automotive parts and engine components.)
🔹 What is PA+PPO
PA+PPO (Noryl GTX®) is a high-performance technical blend that combines the mechanical strength and adhesion of polyamide with the thermal resistance and low hydration of polyphenylene oxide. This combination offers superior dimensional stability and minimal water absorption, maintaining constant thermal behavior up to 200 °C. It is the preferred material for structural components, grilles, and parts requiring precision at high temperatures.
🔧 Composition
- Polyamide (PA6 / PA66): 50–70 %
- Polyphenylene Oxide (PPO): 30–50 %
- Additives: compatibilizers, thermal stabilizers, glass fibers (10–40 %).
- Density: 1.12–1.35 g/cm³.
- Melting Point: ≈ 250–270 °C.
- Chemical Resistance: Excellent (oils, antifreeze, fuels).
- Continuous Heat Resistance: 140–160 °C.
🚗 Where PA+PPO (Noryl GTX®) is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Engine / Technical | Engine covers, sensor housings, air distributors | Excellent heat and chemical resistance |
| Exterior | Front grilles, headlight frames, mirror housings | UV stability, rigidity, premium look |
| Technical Interior | Fuse box covers, electronic housings | High insulation and thermal rigidity |
| Structures / Mounts | Fixing and guiding elements | Minimum deformation at high temperatures |
🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods
| Method | Optimal Temperature | Observations |
| Hot Air | 260 – 280 °C | Slow, uniform melting |
| Heat Plate (Mirror) | 250 – 270 °C | Smooth, precise joint |
| Manual Extrusion | 250 – 270 °C | Suitable for thick parts |
🔩 What to Weld PA+PPO With (Material Compatibility)
PA+PPO is compatible only with similar materials from the polyamide and polycarbonate families.
✅ Compatible with:
- PA+PPO ↔ Noryl GTX / Bayblend / Cycoloy – ideal.
- PA+PPO ↔ PA6 / PA66 / PC+PA / PA+GF / PA+MD – good bond.
❌ Incompatible with:
- PP, PE, PVC, PS, ASA, pure PMMA – completely different melting points.
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation:
Use PA+PPO or PA+PC rods at 270 °C. Heat uniformly to avoid stress between the PA and PPO phases. Slow cooling helps maintain dimensional stability.

🧠 How to Identify PA+PPO (Noryl GTX®)
- Engraved marking: >PA+PPO<, >Noryl GTX<, >GTX<.
- Rigid, semi-glossy, fine surface.
- Often dark grey or matte black (common for OEM parts).
- Blue flame, faint nylon smell.
- Softens at ≈ 260 °C without visible bubbling.
- ReplastMD practical test: If the part is rigid, dense, has a matte finish and is marked >Noryl GTX<, it is confirmed Polyamide + PPO.
