🧩 PA+PPE – Polyamide + Polyphenylene Ether (Noryl GTX®)
(Advanced blend between polyamide (PA6 / PA66) and polyphenylene ether (PPE), commercially known as Noryl GTX®. High-performance material with excellent dimensional stability, chemical and thermal resistance.)
🔹 What is PA+PPE
PA+PPE is a compatibilized polymer blend. It combines the advantages of both materials: the mechanical and chemical resistance of polyamide with the thermal stability and rigidity of PPE. It is one of the most advanced solutions for exterior automotive parts, housings, and structural components, thanks to its low water absorption and minimal deformation under heat (120–160 °C).
🔧 Composition
- Polyamide (PA6 / PA66): 50–70 %
- Polyphenylene Ether (PPE): 30–50 %
- Additives: compatibilizers, glass fibers (10–40 %), UV/thermal stabilizers.
- Density: 1.12–1.35 g/cm³.
- Melting Point: ≈ 250–270 °C.
- Chemical Resistance: Excellent (oils, fuels, antifreeze).
- Continuous Heat Resistance: 140–160 °C.
🚗 Where PA+PPE is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Exterior | Front grilles, headlight frames, mirror caps | UV resistance and high rigidity |
| Engine / Technical | Engine covers, ECU housings, sensors | Resists oils and high temperatures |
| Structures / Mounts | Supports, clips, guides | Minimum deformation under heat |
| Technical Interior | Insulating parts, electrical housings | Dimensional stability and thermal insulation |
🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods
| Method | Optimal Temperature | Observations |
| Hot Air | 260 – 280 °C | Slow melting, controlled airflow |
| Heat Plate (Mirror) | 250 – 270 °C | Smooth joint, no bubbles |
| Manual Extrusion | 250 – 270 °C | Suitable for thick parts |
🔩 What to Weld PA+PPE With (Material Compatibility)
Compatibility is high with materials from the same families (PA, PC, PPO) and technical blends.
✅ Compatible with:
- PA+PPE ↔ Noryl GTX® / PA6 / PA66 / PC+PA / PA-GF / PA+PPO – excellent.
- PA+PPE ↔ Bayblend / Cycoloy / Ultramid® Blend – good bond.
❌ Incompatible with:
- PP, PE, PVC, PS, pure ASA – completely different melting points.
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation:
Use PA+PPE or PA+PC rods at 270 °C. Avoid overheating — PPE can degrade thermally. Cool uniformly to prevent internal stresses.

🧠 How to Identify PA+PPE (Noryl GTX®)
- Engraved marking: >PA+PPE<, >Noryl GTX<, >GTX<, >PPE/PA<.
- Semi-glossy surface, hard, dense.
- Usual color: black, dark grey.
- ReplastMD practical test: If the part is rigid, dense, and marked >PA+PPE< / >GTX<, it is confirmed Polyamide + Polyphenylene Ether.
