🧩 PA+ASA – Polyamide + ASA Blend

(Modern technical blend combining the mechanical and thermal resistance of polyamide (PA6 / PA66) with the UV and weather resistance of ASA. Premium material for exterior automotive parts where durability and color stability are essential.)

🔹 What is PA+ASA

PA+ASA is a polymer alloy (blend) of polyamide and acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylate. This composite offers toughness and chemical resistance, along with UV stability superior to ABS, thanks to the acrylate phase in ASA. The result is a material resistant to heat, oils, solar radiation, and mechanical shocks, primarily used for exterior or technical parts exposed to the environment.

🔧 Composition

  • Polyamide (PA6 / PA66): 60–70 %
  • ASA: 30–40 %
  • Additives: UV/thermal stabilizers, lubricants, dyes.
  • Density: 1.10–1.18 g/cm³
  • Melting Point: ≈ 240–260 °C
  • UV Resistance: Excellent.
  • Continuous Heat Resistance: 100–120 °C.

🔩 What to Weld PA+ASA With (Material Compatibility)

Compatibility is excellent with blends from the polyamide and styrenic families.

Compatible with:

  • PA+ASA ↔ PA6 / PA66 / PA+ABS / ABS+ASA / PC+PA – excellent.
  • PA+ASA ↔ ASA / ABS / SAN / Bayblend® / Cycoloy® – good bond.

Incompatible with:

  • PP, PE, PVC, PBT, PET, pure PMMA – different melting points.

💡 ReplastMD Recommendation:

Use PA+ASA or ABS+ASA rods at 255–265 °C. Heat the area uniformly — ASA can discolor if overheated. For visible parts, gloss can be restored with a quick hot air pass or fine polish.

🏭 Manufacturers and Trade Names

  • BASF: Ultramid® ASA Blend
  • Covestro: Bayblend® ASA/PA
  • SABIC: Cycoloy® ASA/PA
  • LG Chem: LUPOY® PA+ASA

🧠 How to Identify PA+ASA

  • Engraved marking: >PA+ASA<, >PA/ASA<, >Bayblend<, >Cycoloy<.
  • Semi-glossy or matte surface, fine texture.
  • Uniform color, no yellowing in the sun.
  • Yellow-blue flame, faint styrene odor.
  • Softens at ≈ 250 °C.
  • ReplastMD practical test: If the part has a scratch-resistant surface, stable gloss, and is marked >PA+ASA<, it is a confirmed Polyamide + ASA blend.
