🧩 PA6T – Aromatic Polyamide (High-Temperature Nylon)
(High-temperature semi-crystalline polyamide with exceptional thermal and chemical stability, designed for performance automotive applications. Known as “aromatic nylon,” PA6T offers a rare combination of rigidity and dimensional stability even above 150 °C.)
🔹 What is PA6T
PA6T (Polyamide 6T) is an aromatic polyamide containing aromatic rings in its molecular chain. Unlike classic polyamides (PA6, PA66), this provides very high heat resistance, minimal water absorption, and stable mechanical behavior under extreme conditions. It is the preferred material for connectors, engine-proximity parts, braking systems, and sensors where ordinary plastics fail.
🔧 Composition
- Polyamide 6T (aromatic): 100%
- Optional Additives: glass fibers, thermal stabilizers, lubricants.
- Density: 1.35–1.42 g/cm³.
- Melting Point: ≈ 305–325 °C.
- Chemical Resistance: Excellent (oils, fuels, mild acids).
- Continuous Heat Resistance: 160–180 °C.
🚗 Where PA6T is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Engine / Braking | Sensor housings, injection connectors | Resists up to 200 °C |
| Transmission | Gears, spacers, covers | Low friction, high hardness |
| Electrical Systems | Plugs, housings, clips | Stable thermal and electrical insulation |
| Thermal Zones | Metal–plastic guides | No deformation under intense heat |
🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods
| Method | Optimal Temperature | Observations |
| Hot Air | 310 – 330 °C | Requires precise control, rapid melting |
| Heat Plate (Mirror) | 300 – 320 °C | Clean and very solid joint |
| Manual Extrusion | 300 – 320 °C | Only for thick and reinforced parts |
🔩 What to Weld PA6T With (Material Compatibility)
PA6T is compatible only with materials from the same range of aromatic polyamides or special high-temperature blends.
✅ Compatible with:
- PA6T ↔ PA6T / PA9T / PA46 / PA6T/66 / PPA / HTN – ideal.
- PA6T ↔ PA66 / PC+PA / PA-GF – good bond.
- PA6T ↔ PPS / PBT – partially compatible (watch the temperature).
❌ Incompatible with:
- PP, PE, PVC, PS, ABS, ASA, PMMA – melting point is much lower.
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation:
Use PA6T or HTN rods at 310–320 °C. Heat the working area uniformly; PA6T has a short melting interval and a risk of burning. Allow for slow cooling to avoid internal micro-cracks.

🧠 How to Identify PA6T
- Engraved marking: >PA6T<, >PA6T/66<, >HTN<, >Amodel<.
- Rigid, dense, slightly glossy surface.
- Softens only above 300 °C.
- Extremely resistant to scratching and abrasion.
- ReplastMD practical test: If the part is very rigid, withstands hot air up to 300 °C without visible deformation, and is marked >PA6T< – it’s a confirmed high-temperature aromatic polyamide.
