🧩 PA66/12 – Flexible Polyamide Blend
(A technical copolymer formed from Polyamide 66 (rigid, heat resistant) and Polyamide 12 (flexible, chemically resistant), designed for applications requiring a balance between strength, flexibility, and moisture stability.)
🔹 What is PA66/12
PA66/12 (often identified as PA612) combines the best of both worlds: it inherits rigidity and temperature resistance (up to 140 °C) from PA66, and flexibility plus low moisture absorption from PA12. The result is a hybrid polyamide with stable mechanical properties even in high-humidity conditions. It is the material of choice for technical hoses, connectors, and housings where standard PA66 would be too rigid and pure PA12 too soft.
🔧 Composition
| Component | Typical Ratio | Role |
| Polyamide 66 (PA66) | 60–70 % | Thermal stability, rigidity, strength |
| Polyamide 12 (PA12) | 30–40 % | Flexibility, oil, and water resistance |
| Additives | < 5 % | Oxidation protection and process stability |
🚗 Where PA66/12 is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Air / Fuel / EGR Hoses | VW, BMW, Renault | Flexible and temperature resistant |
| Fittings / Clips | Bosch, Valeo, Siemens | Maintains shape at 130–140 °C |
| Sensor Housings | Mercedes, Peugeot | Vibration and hydrocarbon resistance |
| Vacuum / Cooling | Opel, Ford | Stable with oils and glycols |
🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods
| Method | Optimal Temp | Observations |
| Hot Air | 250 – 270 °C | Recommended for local repairs |
| Plastic Extrusion | 240 – 260 °C | Ideal – Use PA612 or PA66/12 rod |
| Ultrasonic / Vibration | — | Very effective for small technical parts |
🔩 Material Compatibility
- ✅ Compatible: PA66, PA12, PA612, PA66/12.
- ⚠️ Partially Compatible: PA6, PPA, PA11 (slight melting gap).
- ❌ Incompatible: PP, PE, PVC, PET (chemically and thermally incompatible).
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: Use PA612 or PA12 rods at 260 °C. The material is stable and allows for clean welds without carbonization.
🧠 How to Identify PA66/12
- Engraved marking: >PA66/12<, >PA612<, >ZYTEL-612<, >ULTRAMID-612<.
- Texture: Fine, slightly glossy; softer than PA66 but rigid under pressure.
- ReplastMD practical test: Slightly elastic when bent, does not crack suddenly. Flame: melts uniformly with a faint amide scent.
