🧩 PA612+GF – Polyamide 6.12 Glass Fiber Reinforced
(A technical polyamide reinforced with glass fiber, combining the mechanical and thermal strength of PA 6.12 with superior dimensional stability and chemical resistance.)
🔹 What is PA612+GF
PA612 is a semi-crystalline polyamide with long aliphatic chains, partially derived from bio-based raw materials (sebacic acid). Adding 15–35% glass fiber results in a material that is rigid yet less hygroscopic than PA6 or PA66. It offers excellent dimensional stability and stress-crack resistance, making it ideal for fuel lines, fittings, and connectors working with technical fluids.
🔧 Composition
| Component | Typical Ratio | Role |
| Polyamide 6.12 Matrix | ≈ 65–85 % | Oil and fuel resistant matrix |
| Glass Fiber (E-Glass) | ≈ 15–35 % | Increases rigidity and dimensional stability |
| Additives | < 3 % | Oxidation, color, and UV protection |
🚗 Where PA612+GF is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Fuel / Air Lines | VW, Ford, Toyota | Pressure and hydrocarbon resistance |
| EGR / Coolant Fittings | Renault, Peugeot | Stability up to 150 °C |
| Electrical Connectors | Bosch, Valeo | Chemical and electrical insulation |
| Engine Mounts / Housings | Nissan, Hyundai | Low weight, high rigidity |
🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods
| Method | Optimal Temp | Observations |
| Hot Air | 260 – 280 °C | Easy to weld, uniform melting |
| Heat Plate (Mirror) | 265 – 275 °C | Ideal – Clean results, no bubbles or voids |
| Plastic Extrusion | 270 °C | Recommended – use identical PA612+GF rod |
🔩 Material Compatibility
- ✅ Compatible: PA612, PA610, PA410.
- ✅ Partially Compatible: PA12, PA11 (requires temperature adjustment).
- ⚠️ Partially Compatible: PA6, PA66 (potential shrinkage differences).
- ❌ Incompatible: PP, PE, PVC, PBT (chemically incompatible).
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: Weld at ~270 °C using PA612+GF or compatible PA610 rods. This material offers an excellent combination of rigidity and flexibility for fuel and thermal systems.
🧠 How to Identify PA612+GF
- Engraved marking: > PA612+GF <, > RILSAN TLG <, > VESTAMID D <.
- Texture: Rigid, visible glass fibers, matte surface.
- ReplastMD practical test: Rough edges when cut; produces a clear, sharp sound when tapped. Flame: burns slowly with a faint polyamide scent.
