🧩 PA610 – Polyamide 6/10

(Semi-aromatic polyamide with low moisture absorption, high chemical resistance, and excellent thermal stability. It is a modern alternative to PA6 and PA66, offering a balance between flexibility, strength, and dimensional stability. Highly valued in automotive components exposed to moisture or chemicals.)

🔹 What is PA610

PA610 is a semi-crystalline polyamide obtained through the polycondensation of hexamethylenediamine and sebacic acid (derived from castor oil, a bio-source).

The result is a polyamide with reduced water absorption, better elasticity than PA66, but similar chemical resistance. PA610 is used in connectors, covers, pipes, gaskets, and technical car parts where exposure to oils, antifreeze, or vibrations is constant.

🔧 Composition

  • Polyamide 6/10 (PA610): 100%
  • Additives: UV stabilizers, lubricants, glass fibers (optional).
  • Density: 1.07–1.13 g/cm³
  • Melting Point: ≈ 220–225 °C
  • Chemical Resistance: Excellent (oils, fuels, antifreeze).
  • Water Absorption: <1.5% (half of PA6).
  • Continuous Heat Resistance: up to 120 °C.

🚗 Where PA610 is used in the automotive industry

ComponentExample partsObservations
Electrical / Connect.Housings, plugs, terminalsElectrical insulation and dimensional stability
Engine BayCovers, pipes, supportsHigh chemical and thermal resistance
Fluid SystemsHoses, nozzles, fittingsResists pressure and chemicals
Tech / StructuralClips, small housingsBalanced durability and flexibility

🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods

MethodOptimal TemperatureObservations
Hot Air260 – 280 °CUniform melting, clean weld
Heat Plate (Mirror)250 – 270 °CSolid joint for thick parts
Manual Extrusion250 – 270 °CSuitable for long cracks

🔩 What to Weld PA610 With (Material Compatibility)

PA610 compatibility is particularly good with other polyamides and related technical materials.

Compatible with:

  • PA610 ↔ PA6 / PA66 / PA12 / PA-GF / PMMA+PA – excellent.
  • PA610 ↔ PBT / PET / PC+PBT – partially compatible.

Incompatible with:

  • PP, PE, PVC, PS, ABS, ASA, pure PMMA – completely different melting points.

💡 ReplastMD Recommendation:

Use PA610 rods or technical PA6 rods at 260–280 °C. Preheat the part to remove internal moisture. Slow cooling prevents shrinkage and stress after welding.

🏭 Manufacturers and Trade Names

  • Arkema: Rilsan® PA610
  • BASF: Ultramid® S
  • DuPont: Zytel® 610
  • Evonik: Vestamid® D

🧠 How to Identify PA610

  • Engraved marking: >PA610<, >Nylon 610<, >Rilsan<, >Vestamid<.
  • Matte surface, slightly flexible.
  • Blue flame with yellow tip, faint nylon smell.
  • Does not deform with moisture like PA6.
  • ReplastMD practical test: If the part is semi-matte, durable, slightly elastic, and marked >PA610< – it’s a confirmed Polyamide 6/10.
