🧩 PA6-MX – Modified Aromatic Polyamide
(A high-performance technical polyamide derived from Polyamide 6 (PA6) modified with a meta-xylylene (MX) aromatic segment. It offers superior dimensional stability, reduced moisture absorption, and high rigidity.)
🔹 What is PA6-MX
PA6-MX belongs to the modified aromatic polyamide category (MXD6). The result is a tougher material, less hygroscopic, with twice the elastic modulus of standard PA6, while maintaining similar thermal stability. It is frequently used for fuel lines, pressure fittings, sensors, and parts under heavy mechanical stress where standard nylons might fail due to moisture or chemical exposure.
🔧 Composition
| Component | Typical Ratio | Role |
| Polyamide 6 (PA6) | 60–70 % | Flexible and processable base |
| MX Segment (m-XDA) | 30–40 % | Increases rigidity, fuel resistance, and stability |
| Additives | < 5 % | UV/Thermal protection, uniform color |
🚗 Where PA6-MX is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Fuel / EGR / Vacuum Lines | Renault, VW, BMW | Resistance to petrol, ethanol, and oils |
| Fuel Connectors | Bosch, Valeo | Excellent pressure and temp stability |
| Sensor Housings / Clips | Mercedes, Opel | Resists 130–150 °C without deformation |
| Cooling System Mounts | Peugeot, Ford | High rigidity and stability in hot water |
🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods
| Method | Optimal Temp | Observations |
| Hot Air | 260 – 280 °C | Recommended – uniform melting, no oxidation |
| Heat Plate (Mirror) | 260 – 270 °C | Ideal – no bubbles, perfect joint |
| Plastic Extrusion | 260 – 270 °C | Recommended – use PA6-MX or PA6 rod |
🔩 Material Compatibility
- ✅ Compatible: PA6, PA66, PA6-MX, PPA.
- ⚠️ Partially Compatible: PA12, PA11 (10–20 °C melting difference).
- ❌ Incompatible: PP, PE, PBT, PVC (thermally and chemically incompatible).
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: Weld at 270 °C with constant airflow using PA6-MX or PA6 rods. Avoid overheating above 290 °C — the material becomes brittle and develops a brownish tint.
🧠 How to Identify PA6-MX
- Engraved marking: >PA6-MX<, >PA-MXD6<, >GRIVORY-MX<, >ZYTEL-MXD6<.
- Texture: Rigid, matte, fine finish, sometimes low gloss.
- ReplastMD practical test: Very low water absorption (~0.2–0.4%). Flame: melts slowly with a faint aromatic amide scent.
