🧩 PA6-GF15 – Polyamide 6 Reinforced with 15% Glass Fiber
(A technical polyamide 6 reinforced with 15% glass fiber, designed for applications requiring increased stiffness, thermal resistance, and dimensional stability, while maintaining moderate flexibility.)
🔹 What is PA6-GF15
PA6-GF15 is a semi-crystalline polymer that serves as an intermediate material between plain PA6 and highly reinforced PA6-GF30. The 15% glass fiber content improves rigidity and creep resistance without losing the ability for controlled deformation. It is widely used in automotive parts subjected to vibration, pressure, or moderate friction.
🔧 Composition
| Component | Typical Ratio | Role |
| Polyamide 6 (PA6) Matrix | ≈ 85 % | Impact and abrasion resistant matrix |
| Glass Fiber (E-Glass) | ≈ 15 % | Stiffening and increasing thermal resistance |
| Additives | < 3 % | Oxidation protection and dimensional stability |
🚗 Where PA6-GF15 is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Sensor Covers | VW, Renault | Good resistance to temp and vibration |
| Fittings / Connectors | Toyota, Peugeot | Dimensional stability and medium hardness |
| Cable Brackets / Guides | Dacia, Opel | Abrasion resistance and low weight |
| Internal Housings | Ford, Hyundai | Balanced flexibility and rigidity |
🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods
| Method | Optimal Temp | Observations |
| Hot Air | 250 – 270 °C | Easy to weld, uniform melting |
| Heat Plate (Mirror) | 250 – 265 °C | Ideal – Ensures smooth bonding without voids |
| Plastic Extrusion | 260 °C | Recommended – use identical PA6-GF or PA6 rod |
🔩 Material Compatibility
- ✅ Compatible: PA6, PA6-GF, PA66.
- ✅ Thermally Good: PA6+MD, PA6+TD.
- ❌ Incompatible: PP, PE, PVC (thermally and chemically incompatible).
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: Weld at ~260 °C using PA6-GF or compatible PA6 rods. This material is an excellent choice for medium technical parts, offering optimal rigidity without becoming brittle.
🧠 How to Identify PA6-GF15
- Engraved marking: > PA6-GF15 <, > ULTRAMID B3WG15 <, > DURETHAN BKV15 <.
- Texture: Matte, rigid, with fine visible glass fibers.
- Density: ~1.25 g/cm³.
- ReplastMD practical test: Clean edges when cut, slightly fibrous. Rigid but not brittle; resists bending more than pure PA6.
