🧩 PA12+PTFE – Polyamide 12 + Teflon
(A technical composite material obtained by adding PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene – Teflon) into a Polyamide 12 (PA12) matrix, resulting in an extremely low friction coefficient, self-lubrication, and excellent wear resistance.)
🔹 What is PA12+PTFE
PA12+PTFE combines the flexibility and chemical stability of PA12 with the anti-friction and non-stick properties of Teflon. This synergy ensures a surface with excellent glide without the need for external lubricants, making it suitable for fuel systems, sealing components, and repetitive motion parts.
🔧 Composition
| Component | Typical Ratio | Role |
| Polyamide 12 (PA12) | ≈ 85 % | Flexible and chemically resistant matrix |
| PTFE (Teflon) | ≈ 10–15 % | Self-lubrication, reducing friction and wear |
| Additives | < 2 % | Protection against oxidation and radiation |
🚗 Where PA12+PTFE is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Fuel Valves / Fittings | Bosch, Continental | Excellent glide, hydrocarbon resistance |
| Vacuum / Air Lines | Renault, Toyota | Anti-friction internal surface |
| Sliding / Guide Parts | VW, Peugeot | Minimum wear, maintenance-free |
| Quick Connectors | Dacia, Ford | Dimensional stability and tightness |
🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods
| Method | Optimal Temp | Observations |
| Hot Air | 240 – 260 °C | Weldable only on the PA12 matrix; PTFE won’t fuse |
| Plastic Extrusion | 250 °C | Ideal – use PA12+PTFE rod for uniform effect |
| Heat Plate (Mirror) | 240 – 250 °C | Warning: PTFE degrades above 300 °C |
🔩 Material Compatibility
- ✅ Compatible: PA12, PA11, PA610, PA12+PTFE.
- ⚠️ Partially Compatible: PA6, PA66, PA6I/6T (melting point differences).
- ❌ Incompatible: PP, PE, PBT, PVC (chemically and thermally incompatible).
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: Weld at ~250 °C using PA12+PTFE or compatible PA12 rods. PTFE does not weld directly but remains embedded to maintain the self-lubricating effect.
🧠 How to Identify PA12+PTFE
- Engraved marking: >PA12+PTFE<, >RILSAN L-PTFE<, >VESTAMID L<.
- Texture: Smooth, slippery to the touch, satin gloss.
- ReplastMD practical test: Soft edges when cut, slightly slippery surface. Flame: burns slowly with a faint polyamide scent; PTFE particles remain unfused.
