🧩 PA12+CF10 – Polyamide 12 with 10% Carbon Fiber
(An advanced technical composite designed for applications requiring high rigidity, low weight, and superior mechanical strength. It combines PA12’s excellent chemical resistance with the elastic modulus and thermal conductivity of carbon fiber.)
🔹 What is PA12+CF10
PA12+CF10 is a technical composite consisting of a Polyamide 12 matrix (Rilsan®, Vestamid®, Grilamid®) reinforced with 10% short carbon fibers. Compared to pure PA12, it has 40–50% higher tensile strength and better thermal conductivity while maintaining low weight and relative flexibility. It is the preferred material for precision sensors, EGR systems, and housings exposed to heat and vibration.
🔧 Composition
| Component | Typical Ratio | Role |
| PA12 (Polyamide 12) | 90 % | Flexible base, oil and fuel resistance |
| Carbon Fiber (CF) | 10 % | Increases rigidity, reduces weight, dissipates heat |
| Additives | < 5 % | Antistatic, UV, and dimensional stability |
🚗 Where PA12+CF10 is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Sensor Housings | Bosch, Valeo, Siemens | Rigid, lightweight, thermally stable |
| EGR / Vacuum Lines | VW, Renault, BMW | Resistant to 130–150 °C |
| Tech Brackets / Clips | Mercedes, Opel | Durable, lightweight, antistatic |
| Special Fittings | High-pressure zones | High thermal conductivity |
🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods
| Method | Optimal Temp | Observations |
| Hot Air | 250 – 270 °C | Recommended – precise PA12 matrix control |
| Plastic Extrusion | 240 – 260 °C | Ideal – use PA12 or PA12+CF rod |
| Ultrasonic / Vibration | — | Very effective for housings and clips |
🔩 Material Compatibility
- ✅ Compatible: PA12, PA11, PA12+GF, PA12+CF.
- ⚠️ Partially Compatible: PA6, PA66, PPA (requires thermal control).
- ❌ Incompatible: PP, PE, PVC, PTFE (chemically and thermally incompatible).
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: Weld at 260 °C with constant airflow and reduced pressure. Avoid overheating above 280 °C — carbon fiber can degrade visually.
🧠 How to Identify PA12+CF10
- Engraved marking: >PA12+CF10<, >RILSAN-L-CF10<, >VESTAMID-L-CF10<.
- Texture: Matte, fine, with a slight graphitic (anthracite-grey) appearance.
- ReplastMD practical test: Lightweight and rigid; silver-grey surface with visible fine fibers when broken. Electrically and thermally conductive (antistatic).
