🧩 PA1010 – Bio-based Polyamide 10.10
(High-performance eco-friendly polyamide, partially derived from castor oil, with properties similar to PA12 but with a reduced carbon footprint. PA1010 combines excellent chemical resistance, dimensional stability, and low-temperature flexibility.)
🔹 What is PA1010
PA1010 is a bio-based aliphatic polyamide obtained from the polycondensation of sebacic acid (from castor oil) and 1,10-decanediamine. It is considered one of the most balanced bio-polyamides, featuring low water absorption and high mechanical strength similar to PA12, but with slightly higher elasticity. In the automotive industry, it is used for lines, fittings, and technical housings requiring resistance to fuels and oils.
🔧 Composition & Properties
- Base: 100 % Bio-based Polyamide 10.10.
- Density: 1.05–1.08 g/cm³.
- Melting Point: ≈ 200–205 °C.
- Chemical Resistance: Excellent (oils, fuels, solvents).
- Continuous Heat Resistance: 100–120 °C.
🚗 Where PA1010 is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Pneumatic / Fuel Systems | Lines, fittings, connectors | Excellent oil and pressure resistance |
| Engine / Technical | Covers, sensor housings | Dimensional stability and elasticity |
| Technical Interior | Clips, mounts, flexible covers | Low shrinkage, easy to process |
| Eco-friendly OEM | Bio-based parts | Sustainable and recyclable material |
🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods
| Method | Optimal Temp | Observations |
| Hot Air | 230 – 250 °C | Uniform weld, no burning |
| Plastic Extrusion | 230 – 250 °C | Ideal for tubes and thick parts |
| Heat Plate (Mirror) | 220 – 240 °C | Clean, controlled bonding |
🔩 Material Compatibility
- ✅ Compatible: PA11, PA12, PA+BIO, PA+GF, PA+MD, PPA.
- ⚠️ Partially Compatible: PA6, PA66, PA+PPS.
- ❌ Incompatible: PP, PE, PVC, ABS (completely different melting points).
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: Use PA1010 or standard PA12 rods at 240–250 °C. Maintain constant temperature and moderate pressure. Natural cooling ensures an elastic and clear joint.
🧠 How to Identify PA1010
- Engraved marking: >PA1010<, >PA10.10<, >Rilsan<, >Terra<, >EcoPaXX<.
- Texture: Smooth, semi-glossy, flexible surface.
- ReplastMD practical test: Faint vegetable scent (castor oil) when burned. Blue flame, softens at ≈ 200 °C. Often found in OEM eco-friendly parts.
