🧩 FLS – Special Fluoroelastomer (High-Performance Synthetic Fluor-Rubber)

(A next-generation fluoroelastomer derived from the FKM/FPM family, formulated to offer superior chemical and thermal resistance. Used in critical automotive and industrial applications where long-lasting seals are required at extreme temperatures.)

🔹 What is FLS

FLS is a complex fluor-copolymer. At ReplastMD, we treat it as an enhanced version of FKM. By optimizing the blend with special additives and TFE monomers, FLS achieves extended thermal stability (up to 230 °C) and excellent resistance to oxidative agents. It is designed to have a longer service life in severe environments involving oils, fuels, steam, and acids.

🔧 Composition & Properties

  • Polymer Base: Fluorinated copolymer (VDF-HFP-TFE).
  • Density: ~ 1.75 – 1.90 g/cm³.
  • Operating Range: Up to +230 °C.
  • Chemical Resistance: Excellent (oxidative agents, synthetic oils, steam).
  • Visuals: Dense, smooth rubber with slow recovery; black, dark grey, or dark brown.

🚗 Where it is used in the automotive industry

ComponentExample partsObservations
EGR Gaskets / SimmeringsToyota, VW, RenaultResists 230 °C and synthetic oils
Fuel / Turbo HosesBMW, MercedesExcellent elasticity and pressure resistance
Injection Seals / PumpsHyundai, PeugeotChemical stability with modern fuels
Hybrid GasketsFord, NissanHigh durability, no cracking or swelling

🔧 Welding and Bonding Methods

MethodOptimal TempObservations
Hot Air✅ 250 – 270 °CControlled surface melting, avoid overheating
Chemical BondingRecommendedSpecialized fluoro-adhesives (Loctite® FPM/FLS)
Heat Plate⚠️ LimitedPossible only for very thin profiles

💡 ReplastMD Recommendation: FLS is repaired or bonded rather than welded in the traditional sense. We use specialized adhesives for fluoroelastomers and apply controlled hot air (~260 °C) only for activation. It is the ideal solution for seals and hoses exposed to high-temperature fluids and steam.
