🧩 EVA+BIO – Bio-based Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate
(Eco-friendly, elastic, and weldable material produced from renewable sources. Used in gaskets, caps, guards, and flexible automotive components, with properties identical to classic EVA.)
🔹 What is EVA+BIO
EVA+BIO is a bio-based version of the Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate (EVA) copolymer, where the ethylene is derived partially or entirely from renewable sources – usually bio-ethanol extracted from sugarcane.
The material maintains the same physical and mechanical properties as standard EVA, but with a significantly reduced carbon footprint. In the automotive industry, EVA+BIO is preferred for flexible, watertight parts like gaskets and caps, especially in sustainable OEM projects.
🔧 Composition
- Bio-based Ethylene (bio-PE) – 60–80 %
- Vinyl Acetate (VA) – 10–40 %
- Eco-additives – natural stabilizers, halogen-free antioxidants.
- Density: 0.93–0.96 g/cm³
- Melting Point: ≈ 80–100 °C.
- Shore A Hardness: 25–80 (depending on VA content).
🚗 Where EVA+BIO is used in the automotive industry
| Component | Example parts | Observations |
| Gaskets & Caps | Seals, corners, mudguards | Ecological, elastic, cold-resistant |
| Car Interior | Pads, soft protections, insulation | Soft, comfortable, and durable |
| Body / Exterior | Flexible caps, boots, sleeves | Stable elasticity, UV resistant |
| Eco-Aftermarket | Sustainable accessories | Recyclable and re-processable material |
🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods
| Method | Optimal Temperature | Observations |
| Hot Air | 230 – 250 °C | Uniform melting, no toxic smoke |
| Heat Plate (Mirror) | 220 – 240 °C | Clean, matte joints |
| Manual Extrusion | 210 – 230 °C | Ideal for thick parts |
🔩 What to Weld EVA+BIO With (Material Compatibility)
As an elastic polyolefin, EVA+BIO is compatible with standard EVA, PE, and TPO.
✅ Compatible:
- EVA+BIO ↔ EVA+BIO – ideal combination.
- EVA+BIO ↔ EVA / PE-LD / PE-MD – very good compatibility.
- EVA+BIO ↔ TPO / POE – good compatibility.
❌ Incompatible:
- ABS, ASA, PC, PA, PVC – polar structure, no thermal adhesion.
💡 ReplastMD Recommendation:
Use universal EVA or PE rods at a temperature of 240–250 °C with constant hot air flow. Maintain slow and steady heating to avoid bubbles. After welding, lightly press the surface for a smooth and clean appearance.
