🧩 ASA+ABS – Acrylate Styrene Acrylate + Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene

(Universal, durable, and aesthetic automotive material, combining the UV resistance and stability of ASA with the elasticity and gloss of ABS. Frequently found in automotive housings, frames, caps, bumpers, and interior-exterior parts.)

🔹 What is ASA+ABS

ASA+ABS is a versatile thermoplastic blend that combines two very popular materials:

  • ASA (Acrylate Styrene Acrylate) – for UV resistance, color stability, and hardness.
  • ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) – for impact resistance, gloss, and processability. The result is a material with a perfect balance between aesthetics, flexibility, and environmental resistance, ideal for car parts that must be both visually appealing and mechanically durable. It is especially used for bumpers, frames, caps, mirrors, and exterior decorative parts.

🔧 Composition

  • ASA (Acrylate Styrene Acrylate) – 40–60 %
  • ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) – 40–60 %
  • UV Additives / Colorants / Stabilizers – 1–5 %
  • Density: 1.07–1.10 g/cm³
  • Melting Point: ≈ 240–260 °C
  • Impact Resistance: Excellent, even in cold temperatures.

🚗 Where ASA+ABS is used in the automotive industry

ComponentExample partsObservations
Body ExteriorBumpers, mirror caps, headlight framesUV resistance, uniform gloss
Car InteriorPanels, consoles, decorative capsAesthetic finish, scratch resistance
Bodywork / TuningCovers, inserts, colored partsMaintains gloss and shape over time
AccessoriesSensor housings, protective capsGood thermal and chemical stability

🔧 Welding Temperature and Methods

MethodOptimal TemperatureObservations
Hot Air260 – 280 °CClean weld, no surface burning
Heat Plate (Mirror)250 – 270 °CUniform joint, gloss preserved
Manual Extrusion240 – 260 °CRecommended for long cracks

🔩 What to Weld ASA+ABS With (Material Compatibility)

As a 100% styrenic material, ASA+ABS is fully compatible with most materials in the ABS and ASA families.

Compatible with:

  • ASA+ABS ↔ ASA+ABS / ASA / ABS / SAN – ideal combination.
  • ASA+ABS ↔ PC/ABS / ABS-HI / ABS-FR – good compatibility.
  • ASA+ABS ↔ PS-HI / HIPS – partially compatible.

Incompatible with:

  • PP, PE, PA, PVC – completely different melting points.

💡 ReplastMD Recommendation:

Use ASA+ABS or standard ABS rods at a temperature of 270 °C. Heat uniformly and apply light pressure. After welding, for a glossy finish, quickly pass hot air and a soft cloth over the joint area.
